How Much Does a Gondola Ride in Venice Cost?

A private gondola hired at a station in Venice costs €90 per gondola for 30 minutes during the day (9:00 am–7:00 pm) or €110 per gondola for 35 minutes at night (7:00 pm–4:00 am). This is the whole-boat fare for your private party of up to five passengers. Shared gondola rides booked online are priced per person, with prices varying by date and ticket option.

Private gondola prices at a station

For a private gondola hired at a station, the total boat fare stays the same for one to five passengers. Here is what your private group pays when splitting the cost equally:

Private group sizeDaytime boat totalDaytime cost eachNight boat total
1€90€90€110
2€90€45€110
3€90€30€110
4€90€22.50€110
5€90€18€110
6, across two boats€180€30€220

The six-person totals assume two private gondolas hired at the municipal station fare. Children and babies count towards the five-passenger limit. Per-person figures in this table are a division of the boat fare, not tickets you can buy individually at a station.

Shared tickets, private bookings and station fares

Ride typeHow you payWhat the price covers
Private gondola hired at a station€90 by day or €110 at night for the boatYour group of up to five, for the standard ride length

An online tour can include commentary, a meeting host or another activity. Those extras and the booking terms can make its price different from the municipal station fare. Select every passenger and the exact ticket option before comparing totals.

03

Is a shared or private gondola cheaper?

For two people, compare the combined shared-ticket price with €90 for a daytime gondola to yourselves. A shared ticket below €45 each costs less in total. For three people, that threshold drops to €30 each; for four, €22.50; for five, €18.

This is why a cheaper-looking per-person ticket can cost a larger group more than hiring a boat. Privacy, meeting arrangements and cancellation terms still matter, so use the shared and private guide to compare what you get.

04

Official private gondola fares and extra time

The City of Venice sets the whole-boat fares for private gondolas hired at stations. For a different duration, the fare is calculated in proportion to time. Agree the length and total before boarding, along with the price of any music or other extra. Traffic, tides and weather can alter the ride length by a few minutes.

The City of Venice gondola service page gives the tariffs and station contacts. The daytime and night tariff periods do not guarantee a boat is available at every station throughout those hours.

What about the €2 gondola?

A €2 traghetto ticket buys a brief crossing of the Grand Canal. It does not buy a sightseeing route or a private boat. Use the traghetto guide if you want to cross the canal; choose a gondola ride when you want time exploring the waterways.
